SumUp leads mobile point-of-sale space with launches in Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands
Merchants in seven countries can now use SumUp to accept credit and debit card payments with their smartphones

SumUp, the company that already enables merchants in the UK, Ireland, Germany, and Austria to accept debit and credit card payments with their smartphones, is now also available to businesses in Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands. SumUp’s offices in these countries will be in Milan, Madrid, and Amsterdam. The international expansion means that SumUp now has the world’s largest international footprint of any mobile point-of-sale operator. The company has achieved this only twelve weeks after its initial launch. SumUp is also the only mobile payments enabler of its kind to accept both Visa and MasterCard payments in all of the regions it operates in.

In preparation for its global expansion SumUp has been putting together packages of updates for both its iOS and Android-based apps. Those updates have gone live today, and effectively streamline the creation, management, and organisation of digital ‘shelves’ of products within the apps, improve product indexing and search functions, and give merchants the ability to process transactions even faster. In addition, the SumUp iOS app is now also optimised for the iPhone 5. Crucially, many of the improvements have been made in response to feedback from merchants using SumUp. “Even as we expand to new markets, our priority is perfecting our product for our merchants”, added Klein. “We couldn’t do that without the feedback we’ve received from our user-base. We are committed to listening to them and incorporating their feedback into our products.”
SumUp’s international expansion follows the release of its API last week, and the completion of a two-digit million Euro funding round in the second quarter of this year.
