SumUp launches API for its popular mobile payment solution

Technology share enables developers to create apps capable of processing payments

London – November 8, 2012

SumUp, the company that enables merchants to take debit and credit payments with their smartphones, has today launched an API for its popular mobile point-of-sale solution. The launch means that businesses and developers looking to incorporate payment processing functionality into their own apps are now able to do so quickly, easily, and securely. The API is available for both iOS and Android apps. Apps utilising the SumUp API will have access to a full payment solution and will be able to process payments from credit and debit cards issued by both MasterCard and Visa, as well as registering cash payments.

“The launch of our API is a logical next step for us on the way to making cashless payments in everyday life radically more simple”, commented Daniel Klein, CEO of SumUp. “More merchants than ever before are using mobile technology to engage with their customers. Unfortunately, until now a lot of them have had to stop short of actually taking payments through their apps as they haven’t had access to the secure technology and know-how needed to do so. The release of our API means that this issue is solved. They can now boost the potential of their apps by accepting payments seamlessly and securely, even on-the-go.”

Crucially, SumUp’s technology is PCI-DSS and EMV certified, meaning that merchants incorporating the SumUp API will immediately gain the ability to process transactions using the highest security standard for card payments. The launch of the API follows SumUp’s successful completion of a two-digit million Euro funding round and its launch in Great Britain, Ireland, Germany, and Austria earlier this year. Developers and merchants interested in incorporating the SumUp API into their apps are directed to visit sumup.co.uk/API for more information.
