Europe-Wide Cooperation : mytaxi and SumUp Join Forces
mytaxi recommends SumUp as exclusive mPOS solution to its more than 45,000 taxi drivers
Berlin, Hamburg – March 24, 2015
SumUp, Europe's leading mobile payment company, and mytaxi, the largest European taxi app, have announced their cooperation today. Through the cooperation, mytaxi recommends its more than 45,000 associated taxi drivers the exclusive use of SumUp as a mobile payment solution.
By means of the cooperation all mytaxi partners can now accept card payments using 'PIN+', SumUp's mobile Chip & PIN card terminal. This is especially convenient for passengers who do not use the mytaxi app and wish to pay by card. Thanks to the integrated chip and magnetic strip reader, all common cash and credit cards can be debited, including those of foreign customers as well as American Express cards, which are of great importance for the taxi trade. At the same time, 'payment per app', which has been launched by mytaxi in 2012, will continue to be possible.
In recent months, SumUp's payment solution was tested by more than 400 mytaxi partners in the context of a joint pilot project. Due to the easy handling, reliability and fast payout as well as the attractive hardware price and cheapest transaction fees in the market, mytaxi decided in favor of SumUp. As a first step, this solution will be implemented in Germany and Austria; in the next phase, it will also be offered to mytaxi partners in Switzerland and Spain.
In order to use SumUp, associated mytaxi drivers must upload the free SumUp app to their smart phones and connect the terminal device to the SumUp PIN+ card terminal via Bluetooth. For billing the driver enters the fare into the SumUp app and the customer confirms payment by entering his pin code into the card terminal. On request, a receipt will be sent via SMS or e-mail.
SumUp refrains from a contract term, monthly basic fees and a minimum turnover. The company merely charges a fee per transaction, which is among the cheapest ones in all of Europe with 1.95 % for all types of cards.
Johannes Mewes, Head of Product and Innovation at mytaxi, says: "To us, it is essential to offer an absolutely reliable and professional solution that optimally supports our mytaxi partners with regard to payment. The clear winner was SumUp, because the company convinced us with its own end-to-end payment solution and its Europe-wide presence. We are looking forward to our cooperation and are excited about the competitive advantages this will create for our partners."
Marc-Alexander Christ, Co-Founder at SumUp Germany, comments: "The cooperation with mytaxi is a further example of how our solution can expand the business activities of selected cooperation partners by the important instrument of mobile payment. With the Chip & PIN card terminal, which we developed ourselves, mytaxi partners are now able to accept physical card payments and, thus, considerably expand the service range for their passengers. Not a single ride will be lost, just because the customer has no cash on him."
The cooperation with mytaxi supplements the existing cooperations that SumUp maintains with numerous partners throughout Europe, for example with UBS, DHL and Tupperware.
