Engineering Manager - Global Bank Tribe

In the Global Bank tribe, we are building the infrastructure and core services needed to provide our merchants with a digital bank account that allows them to be successful at doing what they love. Our goal is to become the most popular banking partner for small merchants globally by offering a high-quality banking experience tailored to small business needs - effortless, simple, and affordable. 

We are looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager who will lead a cross-functional team who are building highly available event-driven, resilient systems. What you’ll do

  • Be a technical and people leader for a squad of engineers dedicated to delivering and maintaining our critical bank systems.

  • Drive technical delivery, including hands-on involvement in technical designs and code reviews, provide design feedback to enable team autonomy and a scalable and maintainable codebase.

  • Collaborate closely with the Product Manager to define objectives and key results (OKRs) for the squad.

  • Influence software architecture within the team and help coordinate dependencies with other teams. Advocate for the company’s strategic vision on the wider platform.

  • Embrace and promote a hands-on culture, underpinned by high levels of observability and a “build-it support-it” mindset.

  • Use regular 1:1s to manage performance and guide your team through their career development and best use of their personal and development skills.

  • Hire. Yes, we are constantly growing and you will also be part of the onboarding of engineers.

  • Engage and improve our engineering culture by leading team strengthening activities, such as offsites, hackathons, cross-team projects, and knowledge sharing sessions.

  • Ensure the squad's operational excellence practices contribute to an exceptional merchant experience.

You’ll be great for this role if

  • You have 2+ years experience as a hands-on Engineering Manager and have 6+ years of software development experience.

  • You have hands-on experience working with backend-focused engineering teams and experience with any of the modern languages we work with (Golang, Elixir, Java/Kotlin) and are well-practiced with AWS.

  • You have a solid understanding of fundamental design principles, data modeling, and API design.

  • You have proven experience in building and maintaining high-scale, high-throughput, and high-availability systems in agile environments.

  • You are an empathetic communicator and active listener with an adaptive, servant leadership style, capable of applying development and feedback frameworks.

  • You are fluent in english.
