Accessibility at SumUp*
We are building a world of inclusive payments and you’re part of it.
Accessibility plays an essential role in SumUp products and services. We’re continuously enhancing the experience of payment making it accessible for all the impaired communities and everyone else. We have taken a number of actions to ensure our products' accessibility and will keep working on bringing the accessibility state-of-art to our products and services.**
Payment Terminals and Kiosks
The growing adoption of touchscreen devices is driven by advancements in technology and user expectations for intuitive, efficient, and modern interfaces. Touchscreens enable businesses to provide seamless and user-friendly experiences while accommodating a wide range of use cases.
Accessibility on the payment terminals is at the core of the SumUp’s inclusivity values. The payment journey with the payment terminals, Tap to Pay and Kiosk is accessible for the impaired communities and everyone.
SumUp has undertaken the below described improvements with the goal to particularly benefit users with visual, motor, and cognitive disabilities, while creating a more intuitive experience for all of its customers. In the light of all accessibility-savvy technological developments and taking into account our commitment to diversity & inclusion, the changes represent a fundamental shift toward inclusive design, ensuring SumUp's core business functions are accessible to the broadest possible user base and align with legal compliance requirements.
Payment Terminals
SumUp Solo and Solo Lite are complemented by a free tactile overlay made of 10 numbers and 3 controls. The overlay is available by request online and alongside Solo and Solo Lite in stores. Our merchants may activate the accessibility mode on the SumUp App to create a simplified journey for their customers during the payment process. Alternative audible feedback and spoken instructions are timely executed and deployed on the speaker of the mobile device of choice, paired with Solo and Solo Lite. 3 criteria are available at the payment completion: success, generic failure, PIN failure. An additional time - up to 5 minutes, excluding PIN entry - is available on all our terminals to complete transactions. The language is simple and consistent, the fonts’ size is matching the device screens.
SumUp Terminal presents an “overlay - free” payment experience on a unique screen size of 6.5 inch developed to accommodate larger characters and buttons. An accessibility section is enriched with features like auto-rotate screen, color correction, font and display size, color inversion, captions and text-to-speech, a technology that reads content generated during the payment process aloud.
Tap to Pay
SumUp's Tap to Pay enables merchants to accept contactless payments directly on their Android or iOS devices without any additional hardware. SumUp Tap to Pay design features are available through a clear, high contrast and intuitive user interface. The payment process for customers is accessible without the need of an overlay directly on the smartphone of choice. The payment experience is simple and straightforward requiring a few steps - “charge the amount” and select“Tap to Pay”- presented to the consumer. Audio and spoken instructions are available during the payment process and the PIN entry.
Kiosk
SumUp Kiosk, our self-service payment solution, incorporates an accessibility button allowing the customer to customize the height of the homepage where the products are available on sale. The 21.5 inch display is showing large and easy to locate buttons for the selection of the products in the catalogue minimizing the efforts. The payment process will be complemented by the availability of two alternative customer oriented solutions: a Phone Ordering service with spoken instruction in English and Order & Pay, a QR code ready to be scanned on the customer’s mobile phone.
