SumUp Expands Consumer Offering With The Launch Of Personal Accounts

  • The new personal account is free to use and offers consumers up to 5% cashback, alongside zero-fee global spending, saving and budgeting tools, and built-in rewards.

London, 01 July 2026 - SumUp, the global financial technology company serving more than four million merchants worldwide, has today announced the launch of consumer personal accounts, marking the most significant expansion of its consumer offering to date. Initially available in the UK, Ireland, Germany, France, Italy and Spain, the launch marks SumUp’s evolution from a merchant payments provider into a complete financial ecosystem for both merchants and consumers. SumUp now offers consumers a fully-fledged personal account with up to 5% cashback at SumUp businesses, zero-fee global spending, instant transfers and budgeting tools.

The SumUp personal account is the first consumer financial product designed to reward spending directly at small and medium-sized businesses, offering 5% cashback on purchases made within SumUp’s network of more than four million merchants. The launch responds to growing demand for financial tools that combine simplicity and meaningful rewards with a stronger connection to the businesses consumers support and form the heart of our economy. With its extensive merchant network across 38 markets, SumUp is uniquely positioned to bring merchant payments and consumer finance together in a way that helps keep money circulating in local economies.

Accessed through the SumUp App, Personal accounts can be opened in under five minutes, at no cost, and include several new features that empower consumers to manage their money, such as spending insights across their connected accounts and budgeting tools like Spaces and Shared Spaces. Day-to-day payments are made simple through instant bank transfers, easy bill splitting, scheduled payments and direct debits, alongside both physical and virtual cards. The experience is underpinned by built-in protection with touch and face ID security.

Spending with the SumUp Mastercard is rewarding at home or abroad, with zero-fee global spending and no hidden charges abroad. Alongside 5% cashback at SumUp merchants, users receive 2% cashback at supermarkets and 0.5% on every other purchase, as well as built-in loyalty rewards at participating businesses.

SumUp Global Head of Consumer Joseph Flynn comments: “SumUp’s personal account offering represents the next stage in the development of our consumer offering - giving people a complete money management experience built around the businesses they already spend with. Connecting directly with the independent businesses in the SumUp network, the personal account gives consumers something unique - real rewards for supporting the businesses they already love. The SumUp personal account enables consumers to spend smarter, budget better and earn rewards on everyday purchases - with no hidden fees, ever.”

SumUp’s operating system now spans payments, business accounts, point-of-sale systems, invoicing, online stores, loyalty rewards and consumer finance. The consumer offering is available at launch in six markets: the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, France, Italy and Spain.

Today’s launch marks the beginning of a broader consumer roadmap, laying the foundations for further products and market rollouts planned ahead.
