Whether you’ve opted for the Air or the Solo, we believe that using your SumUp card reader should be simple and intuitive. To help you get started, we’ve collected a number of easy-to-follow guides to help you start accepting card payments as quickly as possible.

We know that keeping your card reader ready to go is essential to running your business. That’s why all of our devices are easy to charge. If you’ve purchased the Solo, you'll find a charging station already included so you keep your card reader fully charged at all times. If you’ve opted for the Solo and printer, your printing device also acts as a charging station. The Air reader is available to buy with a charging station too. Or, you can keep it fully juiced by attaching the included Micro USB cable to a computer or power source on a regular basis.

As the Solo card reader is a standalone device, you don’t need to pair it with your smartphone in order to track or process your payments. However, you do need to download the SumUp app to sign up for an account. The app is also a great place to explore our other remote payment options.

The Air card reader does need to be connected to your mobile device in order to take payments so it has certain compatibility requirements to connect. If you’re using an iOS device, you’ll need to make sure it has Bluetooth 4.0 and its operating system is iOS 12 or higher. On an Android device, you’ll need Bluetooth 4.0 and its operating system must be Android 6.x or higher. You can find out more information about compatibility in our simple guide.

All of SumUp’s card readers are free from binding contracts and monthly costs. You only have to pay a standard 1.69% transaction fee whenever you take a payment using your device.

All SumUp card readers and products accept major debit and credit card brands, as well as NFC payment options. Choose from contactless, Chip and PIN, or look into our other products for remote payment options. You can find a full list of accepted cards here:

Excellent, you’ve taken the first step towards taking payments for your business with ease. Once you’ve placed your order and we’ve received your payment, we’ll process your order and dispatch your device. We’ll send you a confirmation message and a tracking link via SMS and email so that you can keep an eye on its progress. The standard delivery time is 2 to 3 business days, so you won’t have long to wait. You can find out more information about shipping in our handy support guide.

Your money will appear in your free SumUp Business Account the next day at 7 am – even on weekends and bank holidays. You can then spend or withdraw your money using your complementary Mastercard. 

If you prefer, you can opt to receive payouts directly to any other bank account, with funds arriving within 1 to 2 business days.
