About the team
As Product Counsel, you’ll advise SumUp´s Product Teams developing financial technology products for our merchants in the US, LatAm, and Europe. In this position, you’ll be an integral part of dynamic and fast-growing segments of SumUp’s global business, working alongside a passionate, international team to create innovative technology and amazing product experiences. We are looking for a Product Counsel to join our team, preferably in the San Francisco, CA or Boulder, CO office. This is a hybrid role, which will consist of a mix of remote work and being available to be on-site for in-person meetings as needed.
What you’ll do
Work closely with product and engineering teams to provide legal guidance relating to new and existing products and features throughout the entire product development lifecycle
Negotiate key commercial and intellectual property agreements affecting the company’s products and services
Remain up-to-date on relevant laws, regulations and industry practices so as to provide the best possible legal advice and strategic input on product development initiatives
Help develop SumUp’s global product strategy
Provide legal guidance to SumUp’s US business team
Collaborate with legal, compliance and privacy colleagues around the world
You’ll be great for this role if
You have a J.D. from an accredited law school and a strong academic record.
You have 4+ years of relevant experience at a technology company or law firm.
You’re familiar with launching products and advising on the legal and regulatory aspects of product development in the technology space.
You understand the structure and regulatory framework of the payments industry or related financial services.
You have excellent commercial negotiation and drafting skills.
You can translate legal advice into practical, actionable guidance for innovative product and business teams.
You can work independently, manage multiple mission-critical projects and contribute successfully to cross-functional, international teams.
You bring common sense, sound judgment and a can-do attitude to your work.

130K - 170K based on experience and location + Equity
