Purchasing Manager - Supply Chain

About the role

As a Purchasing Manager, you will play a crucial role in the Hardware team, focusing on key areas such as Purchasing & Procurement, Supplier Management, and cost control for our range of card readers, POS devices, and peripherals (printers, stands, etc). 

You'll work closely with the Senior Purchasing Manager to ensure SumUp meets cost targets, suppliers deliver on time, and parts are received at the highest level of quality. 

To be successful in this role you should be someone who has a very proactive attitude and thrives in a fast paced environment.

About the team

You have probably used our card readers to buy a cappuccino or pay your hairdresser already. In Hardware, we are passionate about creating these beautifully designed card payment devices and accessories that enable our merchants to start, run, and grow their own businesses. In doing so, we deal with a diverse range of engineering topics - industrial and electronic design, embedded systems, all the way to mobile apps and backend services.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead RFI/ RFQ/ RFP and strategic sourcing process

  • Develop sourcing strategies by analyzing suppliers, market conditions, and technology roadmaps

  • Lead contractual negotiations with suppliers on NDA's, General Terms & Conditions, and Production Supply Agreements

  • Communicate closely with Product Managers and Engineers to support prototype requirements, execute against build milestones, and track sourcing progress

  • Negotiate with suppliers to obtain best prototype and production pricing based on targets

  • Perform deep dive analysis of quote submissions based on cost breakdown data

  • Support supplier quality and technical reviews

  • Review engineering development costs with engineering leads to ensure best cost is attained

  • Supervise the procurement of all materials according the Forecast for our EMS partners

  • Actively source key component suppliers to benchmark and optimize costs

  • Establish and nurture supplier relationships and rapport for long term beneficial strategy

  • Manage purchase orders, request and coordinate with payment flow

You’ll be great for this position if:

  • With around 4 years working in the domain you are experienced in strategic sourcing, purchasing and procurement

  • Your background lays in the electronics industry  - consumer electronics or other electronics products

  • You understand the importance of maintaining good supplier relationships and you are skilled at managing them

  • You have experiences in supplier performance evaluation and contract management

  • You possess excellent communication and negotiation skills, thriving in collaboration with the R&D team and suppliers
