About the role

As a Payment Engineer you will support the team with delivering payment features for our card readers and you will also help pass and maintain the payment certifications for our readers.

You will be expected to act as a payment Subject Matter Expert by providing expertise within the Hardware team, and other teams within the company.

As a Payment Engineer, you will be part of one of our small and highly skilled cross-functional teams and work together with Product Manager, Embedded Engineers, Backend Engineers, Certification Manager and UX/UI Engineer.

To be successful in this role you should be open to constantly learning about payments systems, be proactive when it comes to solving issues, and enjoy working autonomously.

What you’ll do:

  • Develop high quality and secure payment software for SumUp payment terminal

  • Closely work with the embedded engineering team to integrate payment applications

  • Execute code and architecture reviews to ensure the quality of implemented solutions.

  • Collaborate with teammates to acquire payment and security certifications such as EMVCo, E2E, PCI PTS, etc.

You’ll be great for this role, if: 

  • You’ve experience developing in C programming language 

  • You’ve prior experience/ knowledge in payments (EMV solutions or contact and contactless payments or smart card technologies (e.g. NFC, ISO7816))

  • You’ve knowledge of payment certifications like EMVCo and E2E or knowledge of payment security certifications like PCI PTS

  • You have experience with embedded systems, developing low-level applications

Nice to have:

  • Experience working with embedded Linux/Unix platforms
