About the Data Platform team:
The Data Platform team is responsible for building the next-generation data infrastructure in an efficient and scalable way that supports SumUp's data-driven mindset and helps millions of businesses thrive. We achieve this by creating automated, scalable, and reusable tools for distributed domains to leverage.
As we steer SumUp towards this self-service, scalable infrastructure, the role of an Engineering Manager becomes central, as they drive the timely delivery of various data projects by collaborating with various stakeholders. These projects enable other engineers, analysts, and scientists to work with data in a self-sustained manner.
What you’ll do
Lead two squads focusing on Data Streaming & Integration (5 Engineers) and our Analytics Platform (5 Engineers)
Collaborate on the strategy and vision for providing a best-in-class self-service data platform across SumUp globally
Support the engineers in the team, making sure this vision is well understood and everyone is empowered to execute to it
Take accountability for the delivery of the data platform squads by collaborating with the Technical Product Manager and various stakeholders across the organisation
Support team members, coach them, and assist in their career development through regular 1:1s and continuous feedback.
You’ll be great for this role if you have:
Relevant experience as an Engineering Manager, leading data teams and complex data projects at scale.
Ability to provide clear input, guide, challenge and empower the team to achieve desired outcomes.
Ability to apply development and feedback frameworks with an adaptive, servant leadership style
Ability to coach, inspire and motivate team members
Solid experience with programming languages like Python, Java, etc and SQL
Working knowledge of Kubernetes, CI/CD, Terraform
Nice to have
Experience with data mesh architecture
Experience with big data frameworks like Spark, Hadoop, Flink, etc.
Experience with collaborative development (mob/ensemble programming)
